The National Rural Education Association (NREA) is proud to announce a new Strategic Partnership with Gracelyn University. This partnership, also supported by Justice U, provides free online courses about identifying and reporting human trafficking.
“We built this collaboration because educators are often the closest adults to children at risk,” said Dr. Matthew Flippen, President of Gracelyn University, about this initiative. “They deserve to be equipped. These courses are that first step.”
These courses are designed to be accessible to anyone, not just those who are already well-versed in the topic of human trafficking. As the site says: “You do not need to be a specialist. You need to be informed.”
The courses are also self-paced, making them more flexible for the busy schedules of rural educators. Upon completing the courses, participants will earn a verified digital badge. You can learn more and get started here.
“The issue of human trafficking is serious, so it’s important for rural folks on the first line of defense – often teachers and administrators – to stay up-to-date,” said NREA Executive Director Dr. Melissa Sadorf. “However, rural educators are often crunched for time, restrained by budgets, and might be limited in traveling to specified professional development sessions. This partnership will benefit rural educators and students, providing them with free, on-demand resources to keep their communities safe.”
NREA strives to form strategic partnerships to support rural communities and rural children. We hope NREA members and non-members alike will benefit from this resource. Thank you to Gracelyn University for joining us in our mission to advocate for every rural learner, educator, and community.
